We had a full house opening ceremony

The 43rd Arena Junior European Swimming Championship has had its solemn opening ceremony on Wednesday in Hódmezővásárhely in the Gyarmati Dezső Sport Swimming Hall.

János Lázár, Minister of Prime Minister's Office, the parliamentarian of the region has emphasized in his opening speech that each and every citizen of Hódmezővásárhely is proud of the fact that the town can organise one of the most significant national sport events of this year three weeks before the Rio Olympics and 373 days before the next year's Hungarian Aquatic World Championship.

Tünde Szabó, the Secretary of State for Sport of the Ministry of Human Resource has said that the government obliged itself years ago in favour of hosting the possibly highest number of international events and owing to this obligation, it has organised the 6th European Championship.

"Several of our champions have achieved outstanding results in the Age Group European Championships thus it can be stated that the fulfilled achievements may predict who are going to become world class athletes in the future and whom we can greet again in the Budapest World Aquatic Championship in 2017."-stressed the former Olympic champion swimmer, who won a silver medal in Barcelona.

The Olympic and world champion Dániel Gyurta has said that it is an extremely significant step for the Hungarian sport that Hódmezővásárhely has organised a Junior European Swimming Championship. The sportsman truly trusts that is it going to be a milestone for many participants before the next year's Budapest Aquatic World Championship and the 2024 -hopefully Hungary hosted- Olympic Games.

When Tamás Gyárfás, the bursar of the European Swimming Association (LEN) greeted the competitors, he wished them all the best and the chance to meet them again in 2019 in the Junior World Championship hosted by Budapest and later on, as well. In 2019 again Budapest is going to be the venue of the Junior World Championship and the LEN will decide on the venue of the 2020 European Championship on Saturday.

On behalf of organising the tournament of the continents, Hódmezővásárhely has carried out numerous innovations in the Gyarmati Dezső Sport Swimming Hall where –amongst others-, a new warm-up pool was built and the lighting and sound system were also modernised. The competitors of the European Championship are very strong, in the Hungarian team the most possible medal winners are Ajna Késely, the youngest member of the Rio Olymics' Delegate and Dániel Sós, the last year's Junior World Champion silver medal winner.

The semi-finals start at 9.00 whereas the finals will be at 17.30. Duna World will broadcast all the finales live every day.
