The Venue

Swimming and public bathing has been part of the culture and history of Hódmezővásárhely for more than 80 years. The Török Sándor Bath and Gyarmati Dezső Swimming Pool lies on an extensive , landscaped area of more than 7 acres. In these easily accessible and tranquil surroundings an outdoor pool with thermal water offers relief for anyone suffering rheumatologic problems. Services, such as massage, jacuzzi, underwater massage, solarium, sauna, steam cabin, remedial swimming, remedial gymnastics and aqua-fitness are available. The bath operates alongside the Gyarmati Dezső Swimming Pool; the latter is suitable for organising international sport events. The Gyarmati Dezső Swimming Pool offers an extensive range of services for sportsmen.

A brand new 33 1/3 m long indoor warm up pool is being built right now just for the 43th European Junior Swimming Championships.

Furthermore the complex has a 50 x 20 m, 2,10 m deep outdoor pool with 8 lanes and overflow system lengthwise. Temperature of the water is 26-28°C. This pool is suitable for swimming, playing water polo and of course for training during the Championships.

Upstairs grandstand may seat 700 persons - physically disabled people may follow the competitions with close attention through the glass windows of the foyer.

On the left hand side from the main entrance, on the west side of the complex a modern fitness room is under construction which will be finished before the European Junior Swimming Championships 2016.

Hódmezővásárhely and swimming is a unique combination. The city is a real headquarter of this sport: Dániel Gyurta and Éva Risztov usually choose our pools for their spring and summer training camps. Their preparations couldn’t have been any better, just think of their most outstanding results: the Olympic gold medals they won in London 2012. Chad le Clos, the South African Olympic champion swimmer also trained in Hódmezővásárhely for two weeks.

They feel themselves at home, since the swimming complex is a world-class venue featuring an Olympic size indoor pool with a newly built indoor warm-up pool and an outdoor 50m pool together with leisure pools.
